While the United States Supreme Court decides whether maintains the “right to abortion” created by the judiciary in the case Roe v. Wade, members of the feminist left panic.
The rights of women, they insist, will implode if they cannot abort their children. Only this “right” could equalize the natural biological inequalities that impose on women the burden of pregnancy and childbirth.
This war against biology is fundamental to the left’s definition of human autonomy. In the pages of The New York Times, Democratic activist Elizabeth Spiers made this clear by arguing that abortion should be considered the moral alternative to adoption.
“When I woke up,” she writes, “my son would wake up shortly thereafter and I would feel him turning and stretching and, in an unpleasant way, pressing on your little foot against my uterus. That’s one of the paradoxes of pregnancy: an alien usurps your body, drains your nutrients and energy, but you’re programmed to happily allow it, desperately protecting it. It’s a kind of biological brainwashing.”
Biological brainwashing. The same people who say biology dictates you it can be a man in a woman’s body and that this is not gender dysphoria — a form of biological brainwashing — but an objective reality that societies should accept also argue that biology generates morally unjust relationships and between mother and child.
As Spiers says, “the washing biological brain (…) occurs during pregnancy”. But women cannot “simply choose not to have an affectionate relationship with the child they are bearing just on the basis of not being prepared or not seeing themselves as someone capable of supporting the child.” This means that women should consider killing the child rather than giving it up for adoption.
The idea of a “biological brainwashing” does not stop at the affectionate relationship between mother and child. Last week, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a silly Instagram star, called the opposition to abortion “the legalization of forced birth.”
For her, biology itself is an imposition on women (the left conveniently ignores the Orwellian term “people giving birth” when it comes to abortion) . For her, ending the pregnancy through the murder of a fetus is a restoration of the natural order.
The opposite is true, of course. The predictable consequence of sex—indeed, the biological purpose of sex—is procreation. The process through which conception results in childbirth is continuous and natural. Interfering with this process through the murder of an unborn human life is the very definition of what is unnatural.
But this is the leftist worldview, according to which true autonomy represents a confrontation between the flesh and the spirit. According to the left, any control of our desires – even a biological analysis – must be overturned in order to create an equal opportunity scenario. In biology, women are different from men; therefore, biology must be fought.
The result of this madness is obvious : men and women increasingly distant, furious at the reality of life and willing to ignore what is perhaps the greatest joy of existence – the perpetuation of the human species through the birth of babies.
But other civilizations are not suicidal like that. As we engage with these kinds of questions, focused on our subjective sense of autonomy, other civilizations recognize that biology is, at the very least, an inescapable reality. Those civilizations that fit the beautiful reality will prosper. Those who don’t will end up destroying themselves.
