A devastating bus accident in Saudi Arabia has left at least 45 people feared dead, most of whom were Indian Umrah pilgrims from Hyderabad, Telangana. The tragedy occurred when a bus carrying pilgrims crashed into a diesel tanker and burst into flames near Medina around 1:30 am (IST). Local reports suggest that around 42 of the deceased were Indian nationals, with only one known survivor, identified as Mohd Abdul Shoiab. His condition remains uncertain.

Eight Pilgrims Survive After Choosing Private Transport

According to a senior official from Hyderabad, the bus was originally supposed to carry 54 Indian pilgrims, but eight of them chose private transport, unknowingly making a decision that saved their lives.
“54 people had booked the same travel agent. Of these, eight took private transport. We received a list of the remaining 46 passengers and are identifying and verifying details with Saudi authorities,” the official said.

The official confirmed that both central and state government agencies are actively pursuing the matter. “We got information this morning. The Chief Minister and senior officers immediately asked us to form a control room,” he added.
The bus reportedly caught fire while most passengers were asleep, giving them no chance to escape, according to local media. Rescue teams reported the vehicle was completely charred, making identification extremely difficult.
