Samsung Launches Galaxy XR Mixed Reality Headset to Rival Apple Vision Pro

Samsung has officially entered the mixed reality headset market with the launch of its Galaxy XR, offering a premium experience at a lower price point than Apple’s Vision Pro. While it costs more than Meta’s Quest XR, the Galaxy XR showcases Samsung’s strong collaboration with Google through the Android XR platform.

Unlike Apple’s Vision Pro, which runs on VisionOS, Samsung leverages Android XR to power the headset, marking Android’s push into head-mounted devices beyond mobile. The device uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset and 16GB RAM, ensuring smooth performance across multiple apps while providing developers with opportunities through the Android ecosystem.

Samsung Galaxy XR Pricing and Launch:
The Galaxy XR headset is priced at $1,700 (around ₹1.58 lakh) for the 16GB + 256GB variant. Samsung plans to launch initially in the US and South Korea, with other markets, including India, expected to follow soon.

Features and Specifications:
The headset features a micro-OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and 109-degree horizontal field of view, offering an immersive visual experience. Weighing 545 grams, it is lighter than the Vision Pro. Battery life supports up to 2 hours of general use and 2.5 hours of video playback.

Samsung has also integrated Gemini AI in collaboration with Google, enhancing apps like Maps and Search. The 6.5MP camera supports 3D photos and videos, while two-way speakers with woofer and tweeter deliver immersive sound. Six built-in microphones ensure high-quality audio recording and communication.

The Galaxy XR’s design draws inspiration from Apple’s headset but brings Android’s flexibility and a competitive price point. With these features, Samsung positions itself as a strong contender against the Vision Pro in the growing mixed reality segment.
