Russian Justice has fined Google this Thursday ( ) for repeatedly refusing to store Russian user data on servers located in the country, as required by national legislation. The penalty amount is million rubles, the equivalent of more of 1 million reais.
According to the agency Russian news agency “Interfax”, which quoted the text of the sentence, the company was found guilty of not having “fulfilled its responsibilities to ensure the copying, systematization, collection and storage of personal data of citizens in databases within Russia”.
According to Roskomnadzor, the communications regulatory body of the country, about 600 foreign companies, including Apple, Microsoft and Samsung, meet the legislation requirements to store local data on Russian servers. Those who refuse may face the fate of the social network LinkedIn, which has been blocked in 2016.
Russian justice had already fined Google and even blocked its access on other occasions under the allegation of publish “false information” about the war in Ukraine, in particular news about the number of civilian casualties in combat zones.
