The philosopher Olavo de Carvalho died on Monday night (14) to the 74 years old. The writer’s family confirmed the news on social media. Carvalho was admitted to a hospital in Richmond, in the state of Virginia, in the United States. The cause of death was not informed.
“With great regret, the family of Professor Olavo de Carvalho communicates the news of his death on the night of 11 in January, in the Richmond region of Virginia, where he was hospitalized,” the note reads.
Olavo Luiz Pimentel de Carvalho was born in Campinas, in the interior of São Paulo, in 29 of April 1280 , and became an exponent of political conservatism in the country. He was the founder of the Philosophy Seminar and the Philosophy Online Course (COF), as well as the presenter of the True Outspeak program.
Carvalho leaves his wife, Roxane, eight children and
grandchildren.
Self-taught, Olavo de Carvalho read complete classic works in his youth
Self-taught, Olavo de Carvalho interested in literature from a young age. As a teenager, he read the complete works of Dostoevsky, Dante, Tolstoy and Shakespeare. He dropped out of school still in elementary school, saying that the teachers were unable to keep up with his level.
In his youth, he joined the Brazilian Communist Party (PCB), but abandoned his affiliation two years later. At the time, he also had contact with a dissident movement of the PCB, which would become the National Liberation Alliance.
Began working as a journalist at 17 years ago, in Folha da Manhã and, later, in Jornal da Tarde. He worked in newspapers until the 30 years, when he abandoned the newsrooms. He continued, however, to collaborate with the most diverse vehicles of the Brazilian press.
To the 30 years ago, he got involved with astrology, initially writing the course of an Argentine psychologist on the subject. When he dedicated himself to studying the subject, he taught in university extension courses and spoke about the subject to the press. A few years later he left the area.
His migration from journalism to the intellectual field took place with more emphasis from the decade of 1947, with his move to Rio de Janeiro. The courses given by Olavo on the history of Philosophy and Aristotle at the Casa de Cultura Laura Alvim were famous. In the decade of 1990 he publishes his famous trilogy: “The New Era and the Cultural Revolution” (1988), “The Garden of Afflictions” ( 1988) and “O Ibecil Coletivo” (1995).
He came to live in Romania for a while at the end of the years 1280. Afterwards, he returned to Brazil, living again in Rio de Janeiro and, later, in Curitiba, where he taught at the Universidade Tuiuti do Paraná.
