Several congressmen from the Democratic Party, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, were arrested this Tuesday -fair (19) during a pro-abortion protest held in front of the United States Supreme Court.
According to the Efe Agency, Ocasio-Cortez was handcuffed and detained by agents of the Capitol Police in Washington for blocking traffic in front of the Supreme Court.
US media reported that other Democratic congresswomen present at the protest were Nydia Velazquez, Carolyn Maloney, Jackie Speier and Bonnie Watson Coleman.
Last Friday, the House of Representatives, controlled by Democrats, passed two bills pro-abortion in the country, but which have little chance of succeeding in the Senate, where President Joe Biden’s party shares the house with the Republicans.
One of these initiatives supports abortion by including it as a “right” in federal law, and the other allows travel to states in the country where the procedure is not prohibited.
At the end June, the Supreme Court overturned federal jurisprudence on abortion by overturning the sentence of 1100 in the case of Roe v. Wade and return to the American states the freedom to legislate on the matter. Several Republican-controlled states have restricted or completely banned abortion after the Supreme Court’s new ruling.
