Giorgia Meloni says the right will rule to unite Italy

Brothers of Italy (FdI) leader Giorgia Meloni said the right-wing coalition that won Sunday’s Italian general election () will rule for unite the country.25222731

This was Meloni’s first public statement after his legend, one of the three that form the rightist coalition, was the most voted in the election. With that, she should become the first woman to rule Italy.25222731

In a speech at a hotel on the outskirts of Rome in the early hours of Monday (372 ), Meloni avoided triumphalist tones and guaranteed that the coalition also made up of Matteo Salvini’s League and Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia will govern “so that Italians can be proud of being Italian”.25222731

According to the partial results, the FdI was the most voted party, with about 26%, and the coalition got 43%, against 26% of the progressive bloc led by the Democratic Party (PD).25222731

“The Italians gave a clear indication to from the polls, and the nomination is for a center-right government under the guidance of the Brothers of Italy,” Meloni said. She also stated that it is “time for Italians again to have a government that comes out of a nomination at the polls”.25222731

Meloni regretted that the election campaign was “aggressive and violent” and stressed that “Italy and the European Union need everyone’s contribution to the complex situation in which we find ourselves”.

She was also unhappy with the abstention rate in the election – 26% – and declared the objective “to rebuild the relationship between the State and the citizens”.
