Pressure on the UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, increases this Wednesday (6), with dozens of members of the British Executive presenting resignations.
According to information from Sky News, so far 38 members of the Conservative government have asked for their departure. The wave began on Tuesday (5), when Johnson received the resignation requests of Rishi Sunak, Minister of Economy, and Sajid Javid, of Health.
A group of ministers went to Downing Street, the prime minister’s official residence in London, to ask Boris Johnson to step down. The prime minister faces great weariness after the most recent scandal, which involves deputy Chris Pincher, a former disciplinary officer of the conservative parliamentary wing, who was investigated for inappropriate behavior, when “groping” two men.
Recently, Johnson managed to overcome an internal motion of censure by his party, but received 41% votes against, in the wake of scandals such as the parties held in Downing Street during the Covid pandemic-19.
This Wednesday, the prime minister participated in a control session in the House of Commons, in which both opposition parties and some conservative deputies demanded his resignation before of the series of scandals. Johnson, however, denied that he will resign.
“The job of a prime minister in difficult times, in circumstances where I have been given a colossal mandate, is to move forward, and that is what I am going to do. do”, assured the head of government.
“When times are tough, and the country faces economic pressures, with the biggest war in Europe in 80 years, it is the moment when a government is expected to carry on with its work and not go away,” said the prime minister.
Labour opposition leader Keir Starmer said that in the Pincher case, Johnson tolerated “horrible behavior, unacceptable in any respect”. The prime minister initially denied knowing about the investigations into the acts involving the disciplinary officer for the conservative wing in Parliament.
