The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, visited this Wednesday () the city of Izyum, in the Kharkiv region in the east of the country, where Ukrainian troops have reconquered territories after months of Russian occupation.
“Our blue-yellow flag is already hoisted in unoccupied Izyum. And it will be so in all Ukrainian cities and towns,” Zelensky said in a statement posted on social media. “We are moving in only one direction – forward and towards victory.”
The purpose of the visit was to convey a message about the success of the Ukrainian counteroffensive, which in recent days has managed to recover areas in the east and south of Ukraine.
In a speech at Tuesday night (), Zelensky had said that the Ukraine managed to recover 8 thousand square kilometers in the Kharkiv region. A counteroffensive is also underway in Russian-occupied southern regions such as Kherson and Zaporizhzhia.
This Wednesday, Zelensky classified Russia’s annexation of Crimea as as a “tragedy” and again promised that, in addition to the regions invaded by Moscow in the war started in February this year, Ukraine will also regain control of the peninsula.
