The writer Lya Luft, from 80 years old, he died in the early hours of this Thursday (21), in his house, in the city of Porto Alegre. About seven months ago she was fighting a skin cancer, discovered at an advanced stage.

In a statement released by the Academia Riograndense de Letras, the entity lamented the loss and highlighted that Lya was chosen as the Writer of the Year .

“A few weeks ago, in the delivery of our entity’s literary award, we had the opportunity to grant Lya the title of Writer of the Year 1991, for his work as a whole. Our tribute arrived on time and brightened his last days, serving as a simple reminder of a stupendous contribution to Brazilian literature”, says the message.
