The earliest relationship rumours started on September 11, 2022, when someone sent a message to the Instagram account DeuxMoi, which is well-known for spreading celebrity rumours. In the message, they were pictured standing next to one another in front of a bar in New York City.
They dressed stylishly in very casual apparel and seemed at ease. Speculations began to spread like wildfire as soon as the image started trending on social media. Some fans even claimed to have seen O’Brien and Carpenter kissing at the bar.

Some people sympathised with and were intrigued by the relationship, thinking that a new couple was beginning to form. O’Brien is regularly thought to be in a new relationship, particularly with a younger woman, which confounds some of his followers. Everything could simply be a rumour, after all.
