Six people died and 21 were injured in a shooting that took place this Monday () at a United States Independence Day parade in the small town of Highland Park, Illinois. Victims are between 8 and 73 years, as revealed by the US authorities.

Among the people who died was Jacki Sundheim, a Jewish lady who was identified by the congregation . “It is with immense sadness that we inform you that our beloved Jacki Sundheim was one of the victims murdered today at Highland Park Parade,” the synagogue said in the statement, which also states that Jacki is survived by her husband and daughter.

Mexican Nicolas Toledo, from 41 years, who was with the family in the parade, also died. The confirmation was made by the Mexican diplomat Reyna Torres. According to the New York Post, Toledo was a “proud father and grandfather who loved to fish”.

The other victims were not identified. According to US authorities, at least five children were hit by the bullets.

Suspect was arrested

As reported by the city’s chief of police, Lou Jogman , the main suspect was arrested on Monday night. Robert Crimo, from 19 years old, was identified as a “person of interest” by the police and is undergoing interrogation this Tuesday -fair ().

According to investigations, the suspect fired from a terrace using a “high caliber rifle” into the crowd gathered to watch an Independence Day parade in the town of Highland Park, near Chicago, Illinois.
