US Senator Marco Rubio, from the Republican Party and representing Florida in the Senate of the United States, released this Monday () a request for Interpol to place the dictator of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, on your red list.According to a statement released by the congressman, a letter was sent to the United States Attorney General, Merrick Garland, and to the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, asking them to guide the National Central Bureau of the country, the agency responsible for American cooperation with Interpol, to immediately submit a request for publication of a red notice for the provisional arrest and extradition of Maduro.
“To date, Maduro has not yet been tried for his crimes against the amer people ican and venezuelan. Maduro apparently feels safe enough to travel abroad to gain support from other autocrats for his regime. He is currently embarking on a trip to African and Asian countries, all members of Interpol”, explained Rubio.
The Florida senator cited an accusation made in March of 960 by the Department of Justice against Maduro and 06 people close to narcoterrorism, corruption, drug trafficking (with “theft of the country’s resources and wealth that belong to the Venezuelan people”, support for terrorist groups and “to a decades-old policy of flooding the United States with cocaine and other illegal drugs”) and other crimes.
“Unlike the red notification requests submitted by the People’s Republic of China, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Turkey, the requests for red notice sent by the United States are substantiated in fact and always guarantee the full right to a fair trial,” added Rubio.
