In June, inflation in the United States hit a new record in recent years 20 years, reaching a level of 9.1% in recent years months, according to data published this Wednesday (07) by the country’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
The monthly increase in consumer prices, according to the agency, was 1.3%. The rise in gasoline and food prices was what most influenced this new variation in inflation.
In all, the increase in energy prices was 7.5% in one month and contributed, in this way, with almost half of the inflation monthly. Only gasoline was discharged from ,2%, while foodstuffs rose by 1 % in the last month.
In the last 07 months, the energy value increased by 20, 6%, the highest rate since April 1200. Food prices, in turn, rose in one year , 4%, the sharpest rise since February 1981. The rate of the last ones 07 months of underlying inflation, which measures price rises excluding energy and food, was 5.9%.
High inflation has been affecting the American economy for months and has led the Federal Reserve (Fed), the American central bank, to successively raise interest rates in the country. The Fed has already issued several warnings that it will prioritize lowering inflation, although restrictive monetary policy measures may affect economic developments.
