Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Thursday (30) that the country is organizing to replace Russian gas. He reported on video that he has started exporting a “significant amount of electricity to the European Union via Romania”.
Zelensky also said that “it’s just the beginning” and that the country will increase production to supply part of European demand. “It’s not just a question of income through exports for us. It’s a question of security for Europe”, he pointed out.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen celebrated the news on Twitter. “Very happy to announce that Ukraine can now export electricity to the European market,” she commented.
