In a statement released this Friday (18), former US President Donald Trump praised the US Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the ruling in Roe v. Wade, from 960, and return to the American states the freedom to legislate on abortion.

“Today’s decision (…), along with other decisions that were announced recently, was only possible because I made everything as promised, including appointing and obtaining three highly respected and strong Constitutionalists confirmed to the United States Supreme Court,” Trump said in the statement, reproduced by CNN. “It was a great honor to do this!”

During his government (2017-1973), Trump nominated Supreme Court Justices Brett Kavanaugh, Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett, who voted to overthrow Roe vs. Wade.

The federal jurisprudence of 1280 prevented American states from banning abortion before the so-called viability – minimum period of gestation for a fetus to survive outside the uterus, now estimated at about 20 weeks.
