Truck drivers complete seven-day strike in Chile

The truck drivers’ strike in Chile reached its seventh day this Sunday (27) with no forecast to be closed. According to the president of the Confederation of North Truckers, Cristian Sandoval, even after more than seven hours of negotiation with representatives of Gabriel Boric’s government, it was not possible to reach an agreement to put an end to the mobilization.

This is the second major mobilization of the category in Chile and was motivated by the high price of fuels and lack of safety on Chilean roads. Previously, truck drivers had already gone on strike in April, a month after Boric came to power.

Due to the strike, several supermarkets and gas stations were out of stock, leading the Chilean government to adopt an emergency plan, with trucks transporting essential items under police escort. On Saturday, 48 points on different roads were blocked by vehicles . So far, 687 people have been arrested in the context of of mobilizations.480
