The Bhootnii OTT Release Date

The Bhootnii is all set to be premiered on 18 July 2025 on Z5.

Released on May 1, 2025, The Bhootnii opened to a muted box office response. On its first day, the film collected just ₹40 lakh net in India a disappointing start for a movie featuring a star like Sanjay Dutt.

NewsBytes later noted it earned approximately ₹8.14 crore total, substantially below its ₹25 crore reported budget. Analysts pointed to limited screen counts, weak pre-release buzz, and mixed critical reviews as factors hampering its theatrical performance.

Despite its underwhelming box office, The Bhootnii found a renewed audience through its digital premiere. It is set to stream on ZEE5 (via OTTplay Premium) on 18 July 2025 . The move aims to give the film a second life among viewers seeking horror-comedy entertainment at home.

The Indian Express delivered the harshest critique with a rare 0/5, condemning the film’s plot and execution. Despite these critiques, several reviewers highlighted the film’s strengths particularly its comedic one-liners and engaging performances by Sanjay Dutt, Palak Tiwari, and BeYouNick. Still, many felt that The Bhootnii fell short of the genre-defining success of films like Stree, leaning more on laughs than legitimate chills.

The Bhootnii Movie Story

Set in St. Vincent’s College, Delhi, the story revolves around a mythical “Virgin Tree”—believed to grant true love, especially among hopeful romantics on Valentine’s Day. However, the campus harbors a chilling tradition: right before Holika Dahan, a student mysteriously dies each year, claimed by a vengeful spirit.

Sunny Singh portrays Shantanu, a heartbroken student who turns to the tree seeking solace. His plea awakens Mohabbat (played by Mouni Roy), a ghost whose love for him soon turns obsessive and dangerous.

The plot spirals when Mohabbat, unwilling to share Shantanu, starts haunting anyone who comes between them. To manage the escalating paranormal threat, the college turns to Baba (played by Sanjay Dutt), a seasoned, eccentric paranormal investigator and alumnus.

With unconventional gadgets and offbeat methods, Baba uncovers Mohabbat’s tragic backstory and fights to save the campus from supernatural mayhem. The narrative weaves horror, laughs, romance, and supernatural investigation into a college-set thriller.

The film’s comic edge is amplified by Nikunj Lotia (BeYouNick) as the fun-loving Sahil, and Aasif Khan as the skeptical yet brave Nasir, both contributing to the team that dares to confront the ghostly forces at play.

Behind the scenes, Sidhaant Sachdev directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Vankush Arora. Santosh Thundiyil captured the chill and charm through cinematography, while Bunty Nagi handled editing.

The score came from composer Amar Mohile, with song portions by a team including Iconyk, Shabbir Ahmed, and others. Production design was led by Dipankar Das and Sunayanaa Paradkar.
