On June 19, 1965, Fator was born in Dallas, Texas. He is the son of Edith Clifton and Jephtha Wesley. He was brought up with his younger sister Deborah and older brother Jephtha Jr. In the fifth grade, Fator became intrigued by ventriloquism after finding a book there. When he was 18 years old, his mother gave him his first puppet after he had saved money for several years. Fator studied at Lynchburg, Virginia’s Liberty University before launching his comedy career. Fator obtained his first ventriloquism dummy when he was ten years old. Fator made his professional debut as the band Freedom Jam’s main singer between 1987 and 1988.
