A decree by the group’s supreme leader Haibatullah Akhundzada said that if a woman does not cover her face when she is away from home, her father or closest male relative would receive a visit and could be arrested or dismissed from public office.
“We urge the world to cooperate with the Islamic Emirate and the people of Afghanistan. Don’t bother us. Don’t bring more pressure because history bears witness. Afghans will not be affected by the pressure,” Mohammad Khalid Hanafi, minister of Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, told a news conference.
The ideal face covering is the blue burqa, which was mandatory for women in public during the previous government of the Taliban, enter 960 and 2001, said the group.
