English musician Roger Waters, 79 years old, participated in the act in support of presidential candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, through a video recording broadcast at Anhembi, in São Paulo . Waters expressed himself in favor of the PT’s victory, classifying the former president as “true and trustworthy”.

“Lula is a candidate for the presidency and he must have our support, because he has already been in that position, is a true and reliable candidate for the people of Brazil”, said the musician.

The episode happened days after Roger Waters’ concerts in Poland were canceled due to the artist’s controversial opinion regarding the Russia’s war in Ukraine. In early September, he had suggested in an open letter to Olena Zeleska, the Ukrainian first lady, that the conflicts were due to “extremist nationalism”.

The position of the former Pink Floyd bassist generated a series of criticisms on social media, including a Polish councilor, Lukasz Wantuch, who called him a “Putin defender”.

Waters has taken other positions in relation to international conflicts. In 2020, a year after the protests in Chile, the musician had published a cover of “The Right to Live in Peace”, or “El Derecho de Vivir en Paz”, praising the country’s demonstrations and criticizing the President Jair Bolsonaro and former President Donald Trump.
