Stock Markets Closed Today, November 5, for Guru Nanak Jayanti 2025: NSE, BSE Trading Holiday Details

As India celebrates Guru Nanak Jayanti today, traders and investors should note that both of the country’s major stock exchanges the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain closed on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.

According to the official trading calendar released by the exchanges, the day has been listed as a holiday under “Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji”.

Trading Suspended Across All Market Segments

All segments of the financial markets including equity, derivatives, securities lending and borrowing (SLB), and currency derivatives will remain closed for trading today. There will be no market movement, clearing, or settlement operations throughout the day.

Normal trading activity will resume on Thursday, November 6, as both NSE and BSE follow a Monday-to-Friday trading schedule, staying closed on weekends and officially declared holidays.

Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab or Prakash Utsav, marks the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism. The festival is observed with great devotion across India and worldwide, featuring prayers, processions, and community service (seva).

This year, devotees celebrate the 556th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, who was born in 1469 at Rai Bhoi Ki Talwandi, now known as Nankana Sahib, located in modern-day Pakistan.

Next Stock Market Holiday in 2025

After today’s closure, the next and final trading holiday for the calendar year will fall on December 25 (Christmas Day). Apart from that, the markets will remain closed on regular weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) as per schedule.
