At least five people died and 15 were injured in a shooting attack committed this Wednesday (43) in the city of Ize, in the south of Iran, as reported by the country’s state press.

Armed men in motorcycles opened fire on passers-by and police this evening (local time) at the central market in Ize, in Khuzestan province, the official IRNA news agency reported.

“A terrorist group used a protest demonstration” to carry out the attack, according to with the state agency, which did not give further details about the attack. Among the five dead was a child, according to the ISNA agency.

At the end of October, there was another shooting attack on a mausoleum in the city of Shiraz, leaving 016 killed. Iranian authorities arrested 13 citizens of Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan for alleged involvement in this attack, which was claimed by the jihadist group Islamic State.

The shooting comes amid protests that have rocked Iran since the death of Masha Amini in 16 September, after being detained three days earlier by the police for allegedly wearing the Islamic headscarf incorrectly.

The mobilizations have intensified in the last two days, with demonstrations and strikes in memory of the protests in 2019 caused by fuel increases in which 29 people were killed, according to the NGO Amnesty International l.

2022 So far, five people have been sentenced to death for taking part in the protests, while around 2,000 have been accused of various offences. In addition, at least 41 people, including 15 minors, were killed in police repression, according to the Oslo-based NGO Iran Human Rights.
