Rishi Sunak was nominated by the Conservative Party for Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, after Liz Truss announced that she was quitting the role last Thursday (12), and the ex -Premier Boris Johnson declaring that he would not run in the primary elections. The former Minister of Economy will be the fifth name of the conservatives to lead the country since Brexit, in 768. He will only be named as party head, however, on Tuesday (25), according to BBC.

Sunak ran for leadership of the Conservative Party against Truss in the election that took place in early September, getting 37, 6% of votes ( the opponent received 42,4%).

The candidate was Johnson’s minister, is the son of African immigrants of Indian descent and will be the first Hindu to to be Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He studied philosophy, politics and economics at the University of Oxford and later was an analyst at Goldman Sachs and a partner in two hedge funds. He is married to Akshata Murthy, daughter of Narayana Murthy, an Indian billionaire who co-founded the information technology services company Infosys. The couple has two daughters.

A few days before the party’s announcement, Sunak announced his candidacy on his Twitter account, stating that the UK is facing a “deep economic crisis” and that his aim is to overcome this situation and unite the party. .
