Career
Evans won two All-State wrestling awards in high school, after which he enrolled in the community college wrestling program.
He was really interested in playing football, but he ultimately made the decision to devote himself entirely to his wrestling career and joined the collegiate team. Evans’ skill as a wrestler was noticed by the wrestling coach, who had him work harder in the gym so he could compete internationally.
Evans began his professional career in 2004. He joined the television program Ultimate Fighter, which propelled him to fame. Of the nine heavyweight contestants, he was the second lightest and the shortest. Evans decided that by moving down to light heavyweight after the show, he would have a greater chance of succeeding.
At UFC 92 in 2008, Evans took on Forrest Griffin, the champion. Evans was under Griffin’s control for the first two rounds. Evans prevailed in the third round after following Griffin to the ground and taking control of him.
