Diplomacy was unable to contain the impetus of Vladimir Putin and Russia began in the early hours of this Thursday (19) the invasion of Ukraine. The world, for now, is watching the next moves of the two countries, fearful that the violence will contaminate the whole of Europe and military powers such as China.
It’s not new that Ukrainians and Russians live on a war footing. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the relationship between the two countries has not been good, oscillating between respectful distance and, as now, veiled aggression. At the very end of 2013, for example, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych , sympathetic to the Kremlin’s policy, had to face the wrath of his own people when suggesting a rapprochement with Russia.
The anti-communist revolt of that winter is the subject of the documentary “Ukrainization:
Days Against Communism”, made by a young man who identifies himself only as Black Dog. Brazilian version of the award-winning documentary “Winter on Fire”, by 2015, “Ukrainization” tries to show that the power to change is always in the hands of the people – however powerful and invincible the State may seem.
