Pope Francis sent a message to Brazilians this Wednesday (10) during the greeting to pilgrims at the general audience in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican. The pontiff asked for the intercession and protection of the Brazilian people, but did not speak directly about the elections in Brazil.
“I ask Our Lady of Aparecida to protect and care for the Brazilian people, to free them from hatred, intolerance and violence”, said the pontiff.
The pope greeted the Portuguese-speaking pilgrims, especially those who came from São Salvador da Bahia, Anicuns, Taubaté and São Paulo. He then recalled the beatification of the girl Benigna Cardoso da Silva held last Monday afternoon, in the city of Crato, Ceará. The girl was killed during a attempted rape, in 1941.

“A young martyr who, following the Word of God, kept her life pure, defending her dignity. May her example help us to be generous disciples of Christ. The life of the world depends on our consistent and joyful witness to the Gospel. An applause for the new blessed”, declared the pontiff.
