Pelli Kaani Prasad OTT release date: When and where to watch this comedy drama Starring Sapthagiri, Priyanka Sharma

Telugu cinema’s beloved comedian and character artist, Sapthagiri, is back in the spotlight with his solo lead film Pelli Kani Prasad, which is all set for its OTT debut on ETV Win on June 5, 2025. While the film may not have lit up the box office when it released theatrically on March 21, 2025, its core theme, comedic flavor, and social commentary now have another shot at connecting with audiences through digital streaming.

After entertaining fans in films like Prema Katha Chitram, Sapthagiri transitioned from sidekick roles to playing lead characters, and Pelli Kani Prasad is another step in that direction. This time, he delivers a story that is equal parts humorous and thought-provoking, rooted in the ironies of tradition and societal pressure.

Pelli Kani Prasad OTT Release Date

Pelli Kani Prasad is all set to be premiered on 05 June 2025 on ETV Win.

Fed up with his father’s rigidity and repeated rejections, Prasad turns to a self-proclaimed swami, hoping for a spiritual solution. Instead of a magic fix, he is told that the root of the problem lies in his own household. This sets off a series of humorous and emotional events as Prasad begins a journey not only to find a bride but also to change the heart of his father.

Another major thread in the story is a hilarious twist involving a family from abroad trying to lure Prasad into marriage only as a means to immigrate to another country. The film cleverly ties in elements of migration aspirations, identity, and belonging, wrapped in light-hearted sequences.

Despite being a box office disappointment, Pelli Kani Prasad is now expected to find a new audience with its OTT release on ETV Win. Scheduled to begin streaming from June 5, 2025, the film joins a roster of clean, family-centric entertainers on the platform, including KA, Committee Kurrollu, and Anaganaga.

Pelli Kani Prasad Movie Story

At its core, Pelli Kani Prasad (translated as “The Unmarried Prasad”) is a satirical comedy-drama that centers around the life of Katnam Prasad, a 38-year-old bachelor from a small town in Telangana. His only desire is to settle down with a life partner.

However, every attempt at marriage ends in failure all because his father stubbornly refuses to give dowry, a decision that ironically makes him a moral hero and a social villain at the same time. Prasad’s struggle forms the heart of the narrative.

While society demands financial compensation for marriage in the form of dowry, Prasad’s father’s refusal—though ethical—turns into a self-inflicted blockade for his son’s happiness. This contradiction provides fertile ground for comedy, conflict, and commentary, and the film smartly uses it to highlight the absurdities of an outdated social practice.

Cast and Crew of Pelli Kani Prasad Movie

One of the film’s key strengths is Sapthagiri’s performance. Known for his impeccable comic timing and underdog appeal, he shoulders the film with earnestness. He blends innocence, frustration, and slapstick in a way that keeps the audience entertained while drawing empathy for his character.

Though Sapthagiri has been missing from major comedic roles in recent times due to his focus on leading roles, Pelli Kani Prasad serves as a reminder of his versatility and emotional range. The film proves that he can headline a movie without losing the humor that made him a household name.

Backing Sapthagiri is a strong ensemble cast that adds depth and flavor to the story. The cast includes: Priyanka Sharma – as the female lead and love interest, Murlydhar Goud, Annapurnamma, Vadlamani Srinivas, Pramodini Pammi, Mahaboob Basha, Laxman Meesala, Rohini and Ramprasad.

Each character serves a purpose in either elevating the humor or highlighting the social dynamics at play. The roles are well-crafted, keeping the tone light but never losing sight of the emotional undercurrents that make the film relatable.

Pelli Kani Prasad is directed by Abhilash Reddy Gopidi, who also handles the screenplay. The story is penned by Akhil Varma and Y.N. Lohit, with Varma also writing the dialogues. The film’s narrative flows smoothly, thanks to the team’s commitment to balancing satire with sincerity.

The production team includes: K.Y. Babu (Vision Group), Bhanu Prakash Goud, Sukka Venkateshwar Goud, Vybhav Reddy Mutyala. This grounded and resourceful production approach helps the film maintain its small-town authenticity without unnecessary grandeur.
