The market was flat on the last day of the year. However, the Nifty Index hit 14,024 for the first time intra-day. Earlier, on November 24, the index broke through the 13055 level. The Nifty finally closed at 13981, up 83% from its March low. While the Sensex rose 5 points to close at 47751. The Nifty fell 13% to close at 7610 on March 23.
Shares of HDFC, Sun Pharma, ICICI Bank, Asian Paints, Titan Company are gaining ground on the Sensex. HDFC rose 1.65 percent to close at 2,558.60. Sun Pharma rose 1.41 percent to close at 592.35. However, shares of TCS, Ultrate Cement, Bharti Airtel, Kotak Mahindra, Tech Mahindra were down. TCS fell 1.33 percent to close at 2870.20. Ultratech Cement fell 1.33 percent to close at 5,284.30.
Sensex is also at an all time high
In contrast, the Sensex is also trading at 47,847.46, up 101.24 points. However, the index hit an intraday high of 47,865.65. This is the highest level of the index. Shares of Bajaj, IndusInd Bank, HDFC Bank and Reliance lead the index’s gains. The total market capitalization of companies listed on BSE reached Rs 188.33 lakh crore.
Also bought in Asian markets
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index was up 121 points, or 0.45 percent, to 27,269 in Asian trading today. Apart from that, China’s Shanghai Composite Index is also trading at 3442, up 28 points. Japan’s Nikkei index fell 123 points (0.45%) to close at 27,444.
Rising US markets
US markets rallied on Wednesday, the last trading day of the year. The Dow Jones index fell 73 points to close at 30,409, down 0.24%. Thus, the S&P 500 index rose 5 points to close at 3732. Apart from that, the Nasdaq index also closed at 12870 with an increase of 19 points.
Huge purchase in the European market
Investors in European markets, especially Britain, sold huge stocks yesterday. The FTSE index closed at 6,555, down 46 points (0.71%). France’s CAC index fell 12 (0.22%) to close at 5,599. Apart from that, the German DAX index also closed at 13,718 with a drop of 42 points (0.31%) .
