King Charles III of the United Kingdom highlighted Brazil’s role in protecting to the environment at a meeting in London with about 200 politicians, activists and company directors from around the world this Saturday (5). The meeting is a kind of preview of the COP21, who will debate the world’s climate issues next week in Egypt.
At the meeting at Buckingham Palace with the Brazilian delegation, Charles III said that “Brazil is fundamental for the preservation of the planet”, as revealed by the newspaper O Estado de Sao Paulo. The Brazilian delegation was made up of the president of Banco do Brasil, Fausto Ribeiro, the CEO of paper manufacturer Klabin, Cristiano Teixeira, in addition to a representative by the perfume manufacturer Natura.

Among those attending the event were the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, the President of the COP, Alok Sharma, the US President Joe Biden’s special envoy on climate issues, John Kerry, and the fashion designer and environmental activist Stella McCartney, daughter of Beatle Paul McCartney.

In highlighting the importance of Brazil for the environment, the king did not mention the recent election in Brazil, in which former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won the current president Jair Bolsonaro. Charles III has been fighting for environmental issues since he was a prince. Charles III ascended the throne of the United Kingdom on the death of Queen Elizabeth II, who ruled the British state for 70 years old.
