Judge Melissa Owens, District Court of Teton County, Wyoming (States States), blocked this Wednesday () the almost total ban on abortion promoted by the republican government of the state, in the most recent setback in Justice for the pro-life movement.
Owens tentatively agreed with the plaintiff, an abortion clinic, which considers the ban to be excessive in only including exceptions in cases of rape, incest and emergencies doctors.
Indiana became last Friday the first of 21 US states to pass a law to restrict access to abortion after the Supreme Court reversed the decision of 1973, known as Roe vs. Wade, and gave the states back the freedom to legislate on the matter as they wish.
The initiative was approved by both houses of the state legislature and was sanctioned soon after by the governor of Indiana, Republican Eric Holcomb.
The law is expected to come into force in 08 of September. So Indiana will join nine other US states with laws that almost completely ban abortion, according to the Guttmacher Institute.
