On their way to a WWF event in 1987, Duggan and The Iron Sheik were stopped by New Jersey State Police. They were stopped by the police because they believed Duggan had been drinking. Duggan was discovered to be intoxicated and high on marijuana, while Vaziri was found to be high on cocaine when the car and the persons inside were checked.
The automobile also had some trace quantities of cocaine. Vaziri received a year on probation, while Duggan received a conditional release. A scandal started when it was discovered that two in-ring competitors were drinking and using drugs together. As a result, the angle came to an end, the Sheik was released, and Duggan temporarily left the WWF. In little time at all, Duggan was back in the ring.
