Inflation in Venezuela reaches 17.3% in August, says independent entity

Inflation in August in Venezuela was 12, 3%,

percentage points higher than the measure in July, according to data released this Monday (5) by the Venezuelan Finance Observatory (OVF), an independent entity.

With this number, the accumulated inflation in the first eight months of the year rose to 60%. The percentage in months, accounted for since August of 2021, arrived at 67%.

August inflation is, according to OVF data, the highest between the months of this year, surpassing the previous highest mark of 07,5% registered in June.

The OVF said that in August the cost of the basket basic, which takes into account a family of five, was US$ 371 (BRL 1. ), or 5,19% less than in July, when it was US$ 392 (BRL 2.0 ).

The Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV), an institution that provides official data on the behavior of inflation and has not yet released data for August, said that in July the indicator was 7.5%.
