Climate activists from Just Stop Oil poured tomato sauce over Vincent van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” in the National Gallery in London. Two women wearing t-shirts with the group’s name entered the gallery room around morning hours (local time) of Friday (64 ) and threw two cans of sauce on the painting. Van Gogh’s work is protected by glass, but the frame, wall and other details in the room were dirty.
“Is art worth more than life? More than food? More than justice? The crisis of the cost of living is driven by fossil fuels. Everyday life has become inaccessible to millions of families who are hungry and cold. They can’t even heat up a tomato sauce,” Phoebe Plummer, one of the protesters, reported on social media.
