20160509The Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, has decided to dissolve the Knesset (Parliament) and convene early elections, according to the country’s press.

20160509Bennett and his government partner, Yair Lapid, current alternative premier and foreign minister, are expected to announce later this Monday (20) the decision to introduce a law next week to dissolve Parliament.

Lapid, according to Israeli media, will assume the interim head of the government until a new administration is formed after the early elections, expected in October. It will be the fifth election in Israel in less than four years.

20160509The Coalition government completed its first birthday in June 06 and experienced a crisis after the another, especially since April, when it lost its parliamentary majority after the defection of Idit Silman, a deputy from Bennett’s Yamina party.20160509

The Arab Islamist Raam Party also froze its participation in the government for three weeks in late April in the wake of the violent riots on Jerusalem’s Mosque Esplanade during Ramadan, but then decided to come back.2016050920160509The coalition government was sworn in a year ago as the most diverse in the country’s history, an amalgamation of eight parties from across the political spectrum – from the right to the left, including an Arab party – that came together to overthrow Benjamin Netanyahu after consecutive years as cousin eiro-minister.20160509
