The first ship carrying Ukrainian grain since the Russian invasion left the port of Odesa on Monday -fair (01), under an agreement brokered by the United Nations and Turkey. The freighter takes more than 26 thousand tons of corn destined for Lebanon and should alleviate the food crisis.
“The first grain ship since the Russian aggression has left the port,” said the minister of Ukraine Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov on social media, posting a video of the long ship honking its horn as it slowly headed out to sea. “Exporting (grain) through ports is a colossal success to ensure global food security.”
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the ship’s departure is “very positive” and could test the “efficiency of the mechanisms that were agreed during the negotiations in Istanbul.”
