Family says they received news of the death of Brazilian who fought in Ukraine

Family members of Douglas Rodrigues Búrigo, from years, they told the Brazilian press, this Saturday (2), that they had received the information that he died in the war in Ukraine. According to Douglas’ father, a commander called informing him that he was the victim of a bombing in Kharkiv – the second largest Ukrainian city.

A resident of São José dos Ausentes, in Rio Grande do Sul, Douglas served in the Army for four years in Uruguaiana. He left in May for the conflict region, initially to “do humanitarian service”. “It was his dream to help, but I think it went wrong and he went straight to the front line, and the worst thing happened”, said his father, Pedro Elson Vieira Búrigo, in an interview with G1.

The last contact with the family was on Tuesday (28), to inform that he would be without phone signal, because he would go to the front line of a battle.

Douglas was single, lived with his parents, and had a daughter. The Itamaraty has not yet commented on the matter and the family has no information about the recovery of the body. On social networks, friends commented on the last photos, lamenting the death of the Brazilian.
