Doctor who performed abortion on 10-year-old girl will be investigated

Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita intends to investigate physician Caitlin Bernard for failing to notify authorities that she performed an abortion on a ten-year-old girl who was raped in neighboring Ohio.

The case of this minor has gained enormous relevance in the country, as US President Joe Biden cited it as an example of the consequences of the Supreme Court decision, which reversed Roe v Wade, of 1973, giving the states back the power to decide on the issue.

In a leaked letter this Thursday (14) and dated the day before, the prosecutor asked Indiana Governor, Republican Eric Holcomb, for records from the Department of Health and the Department of Children’s Services to determine whether physician Caitlin Bernard notified authorities about the abortion within three days.

“If the doctor Bernard did not provide the required information in time, she has committed a crime whose consequences may include criminal proceedings”, said in the letter Rokita, who advocates restricting access to abortion.

Several Republican-controlled states have adopted legislation protecting the lives of unborn children since the Supreme Court struck down the Roe v Wade decision in June, effective nationwide since 1973.

A minor under ten was raped in Ohio, a state that restricted abortion from the sixth week of pregnancy without exceptions such as rape, and traveled to Indiana for the procedure, where abortion is allowed up to the 22 week (when the unborn baby is already viable in many cases and is already in pain).

The Indiana Congress, however, will vote in two weeks on new, more restrictive abortion legislation.

Democratic Party Reaction

On Twitter, the doctor who performed the abortion wrote on Wednesday (13) that “doctors should be able to provide necessary medical care when and where people need it “, using the euphemism “medical care co” to refer to the death of the unborn baby.

“My heart breaks for the victims of sexual assault and abuse. I am very sad that our country is failing them when they need us most,” said the abortion doctor.

Biden publicly referred to the case when he signed an executive order to ensure that women can move between states for abortion.

“Raped and six weeks pregnant at ten years old. Already traumatized, she had to travel to another state. Imagine being that little girl”, commented the Democrat president, who says he is Catholic, when criticizing the Republicans and defending abortion.
