Representatives of the Democratic Party of the United States are being accused by Republicans of having pretended they were handcuffed while being arrested during a protest against pro-abortion held in front of the United States Supreme Court on Tuesday (07).
Videos posted on Twitter show Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar, both members of the House of Representatives, walking with their hands clasped behind their backs, as if they were handcuffed, as they were stopped by agents of the Capitol Police in Washington. However, you can clearly see that they are not wearing handcuffs on their wrists.
In one of the videos, the two parliamentarians raise their right arm to greet supporters and then return their hands to the same position. See below: 2022
Republican Nancy Mace, also a member of the House of Representatives, snarled Ocasio-Cortez. “Politics has become performance art. So of course Ocasio-Cortez pretends she was handcuffed. Performance, not politics, is the name of the game here,” he wrote on Twitter.
“ Oh my God, Ocasio-Cortez pretending she was handcuffed. It’s too much!”, criticized Republican communicator Matt Whitlock.
This Wednesday, fair (19), Ocasio-Cortez responded to Mace with a post, retweeted by Ilhan Omar.
“There was no pretense here. Placing hands behind the body is a best practice when detained, handcuffed or not, to avoid aggravating charges such as resisting arrest,” the Democrat wrote, accusing the Republican of “lying about a fellow rape survivor to get ‘points’, as you said about me” – the two parliamentarians have already publicly reported that they were victims of sexual violence.2022
