What is City On Fire based upon?
The most recent original drama produced by Apple is based on the 2003 Fourth of July shooting in Central Park, which was lauded by critics. Samantha Cicciaro, a student at New York University, was tragically killed that evening (Wonders).
She had just left the performance of her friends’ band at her favourite bar to meet someone when she was gunned down; as she was alone and there was little physical evidence at the scene, the chances of obtaining justice are little to none.
When it is discovered that she is a critical link between a succession of inexplicable citywide fires, the downtown music scene, and a wealthy uptown real estate family under pressure to keep their secrets buried, the inquiry becomes even more difficult.
