Janaína Rueda, chef and partner at Bar da Dona Onça and Casa do Porco, is the winner of the “American Express Icon Award 2020” (Icon Award 2020) awarded by the 50 best restaurants in Latin America. The prize rewards personalities in the sector who work to raise awareness and promote positive changes through gastronomy.
The Brazilian chef’s award is recognition of her work for social inclusion, both with actions to help civilians in need and the hospitality industry during the pandemic, as well as for her dedication to important guidelines such as improving the quality of school meals in São Paulo (photo).
Its most recent action focused on the development of “Ocupa Rua”, a project that integrates the street with downtown restaurants to mitigate the reduction in the number of tables in homes induced by the new distance protocols.
“It’s very rewarding and exciting to be recognized for an award like this,” said Janaína, who added: “It’s our role as food workers to support the most vulnerable, especially at this time of pandemic. The time for change is now! “.
