In his resignation speech, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said be proud of the work he did in the UK executive, citing the campaign against Covid-19, the plan of vaccination, the post-Brexit deal and the contribution with Ukraine. Johnson regretted having to leave “the best job in the world” and that “no one is irreplaceable”.
The former prime minister agreed to resign this Thursday ( ), after 24 officials have left the government in recent days, three of them in the last ones 15 hours. One of his closest allies, the head of the Treasury, Nadhim Zahawi, asked the prime minister to step down “for the good of the country”.
“Prime Minister: this is not sustainable and it will only get worse: for you, for the Conservative Party and most importantly: for the whole country”, said Zahawi in a letter to Johnson.
Boris Johnson, from 58 years, remained in power for nearly three years , despite the criticism that surrounded him. But recent revelations that Johnson knew about the sexual harassment allegations against lawmaker Chris Pincher, before promoting him, were the final straw.
Johnson’s party has not yet said whether he will remain in the British Executive until another name takes over. prime minister, but the former prime minister announced that he intends to remain until October.
