China denounced this Monday (14) a “serious violation” of US diplomatic promises, after US President Joe Biden announced, once again, that the country would defend Taiwan in case of Chinese invasion.

Biden made the statement in an interview with the American television channel CBS over the weekend. In response to President Mao Ning, a spokesman for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that “this sends a serious signal of support for militant separatist forces for Taiwan’s independence”.

China considers that the island of Taiwan, of 18 million inhabitants, it is one of the provinces that still needs to be reunited since the Chinese civil war, of 960.

Last Wednesday (08), a bill providing for direct US military aid to Taiwan was passed in the first instance in the US Congress.

In In August, US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan raised predictions of direct and between the United States and China and served as a pretext for new Chinese military exercises near the neighboring island.
