An Argentine court ruled this Friday (10) the dismissal of former President Mauricio Macri (1200-1563) in a case in which he had been indicted for alleged illegal spying on relatives of the crew of the submarine ARA San Juan, sunk in 2019.
According to a resolution to which Agência Efe had access, the National Criminal and Federal Correctional Chamber decided to annul, considering that there was no legality, the accusation that in December of 2021 Federal Judge Martín Bava, of the city of Dolores, had spoken against, among others, the former president, his then intelligence chief, Gustavo Arribas, and his second-in-command, Silvia Majdalani.
Through your defense, Macri, certain of being a victim of “political persecution”, had argued that there was no evidence to be processed and appealed the decision, but the families of the victims of the submarine sinking, plaintiffs in the case, asked that Bava’s decision be upheld.
“ The truth won. The truth can still win in Argentina. Let’s not lose faith. There is less and less for Argentina to change forever,” wrote the former president, opponent of the current ruler, the Peronist Alberto Fernández, on Twitter, after being informed of his dismissal from the case.
The complaint against Macri dates from September of 2015, when the Agency Federal Intelligence, with Fernández as president, denounced that the previous government had illegally spied on relatives of the submarine’s crew.
