Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi promised this Sunday (20) to repress the intense demonstrations across the country, which have been taking place since the last day

. The death of a woman from 13 years during an arrest for not wearing the hijab (veil) generated protests in Iran that echoed on social media and in other countries – especially in Canada, France and the United States – in recent days.

Yet, 41 people died and 540 were arrested during the demonstrations, most of them in Tehran, the capital of Iran.

On Saturday (19), the People’s Union of Islamic Iran party has asked the state to cancel the obligation to wear the hijab and release people who were arrested in recent weeks during the protests.
Amnesty International has calls on Iranian forces to “deliberately fire on the protesters”, calling for “urgent international action to end the repression”.

Since last week, WhatsApp and Instagram apps have been blocked in the country, as a response from the authorities to the protests.
