Even though at the end of last year we heard about the emergence of a new virus halfway around the world, no one could imagine that the most repeated words of 2020 would be: wash your hands , rub alcohol, put on your mask. and – a champion of all – to stay at home.
With the recommendation always to avoid going out on the streets, the Guide picked the best in culture and food this year – but without having to leave the sofa.
It is precisely for this reason that one of the highlights of this year was the delivery. With lounges closed for months to fight the coronavirus, chefs, restaurateurs and even home cooks have found the delivery service a respite.
The public, in turn, was able to discover new flavors, including those of major food brands, without leaving the house.

I love you Sando
Created by cook Toshi Akuta during his forties, the brand specializes in sandwiches, Japanese sandwiches. The basis of the snacks is hokkaido milk bread; among the toppings, a suggestion is the kare (Japanese curry, grated beef and boiled egg; R $ 29). During the pandemic, the house adapted the Latin accent menu dedicated to fish for delivery – in addition to offering its own delivery. Carioca, the restaurant of chef Batista, partner of Claude Troisgros for nearly 40 years, arrived in the capital in July. At the moment, it only works with delivery and pickup – the kitchen, by the way, works at Chez Claude, Troisgros’ home in São Paulo. The menu offers five courses, all for R $ 45. The main suggestion is the Batista minced meat, which is accompanied by mashed potatoes, rice and panko farofa.

The project offers a vegan lunch prepared by chefs from Paraisópolis with organic ingredients from farmers in the capital. There’s a daily option, with combinations like sweet potatoes seasoned with leeks and served on chard leaves, as well as chickpea dumplings with pineapple chutney and tomato salad, grilled okra and basil. Values start at R $ 33 (through the app.dulocal.eco website), but there may be variations in purchases in the iFood, Rappi and Uber Eats apps.

Creativity and technique are found in the recipes of this pizzeria, which traditionally has nothing. Little sister of the exquisite Evvai, the house opened at the end of March with Neapolitan-inspired rounds of individual size. In the Chicken and Catupiry blanket, the Brazilian smoked bird breast also shares space with the corn (R $ 47).

People in front of Isla Café, the brand dedicated to delivery and collection was created during the pandemic. The menu, also signed by Izadora Ribeiro, has influences from several Asian countries, in dishes that have rice as a common base. A tip is the curry that bears the name of the house, of vegetables, with jasmine rice, mango chutney and peanut flour (R $ 46).

Another child of the pandemic, the brand bears the signature of chef Fred Caffarena, also from Firin Salonu. On the menu, hummus – chickpeas and typical Middle Eastern tahini pastries – is the basis of the recipes. The tip is M. Jacó’s Hommus, with kebab, tomato sauce and fried egg (32 R $).

The address is the younger brother of Pinati, a kosher house of Israeli cuisine in Higienópolis – the space is run by Alon Berlovick, who is in charge of Pinati with his parents. He shares the partnership with his friend Julia Friedman. With the proposal to present a menu with Jewish roots and an informal imprint, he offers sandwiches made from pita bread, that traditional Middle Eastern dish. Among the toppings, pastrami, schnitzel, falafel and cafta share the space with burgers. Values range from R $ 27 to R $ 39.

Another first that took place during the pandemic at the end of April, this dark kitchen bears the signature of Thiago Bañares, from Tan Tan. The menu showcases the benthos, Japanese lunch boxes. Colorful and healthy, the dishes contain gohan, vegetables, canned turnip, uméboshi (salted plum), bamboo shoots and a piece of fish pasta, in addition to the chosen protein.
