‘2018’ is one of the few movies that successfully engages the audience and transports them on a trip alongside the characters in the story. The plot isn’t particularly complex, and there aren’t any huge turns or twists, but what elevates it to the level of greatness is the excellent characterization and narration.
The narrative that Director Jude Anthany Joseph offers is one that moves the viewer emotionally. The spectators could be thrown off by the characters in the first half of the movie, but as the second half goes on, the director’s goals become more and more obvious. The story is captivatingly told by him, and the feelings he conveys are so endearing that it’s impossible not to feel what’s happening on screen thanks to his acting.
What’s the story of 2018
Anup, played by Tovino Thomas, is a former soldier who quit the military due to his dread of dying in combat. While Mathachan (Lal) and his son Winston (Narain) make a living off of fishing, Koshy (Aju Varghese), the third member of the family, works as a taxi driver for tourists. Ramesh (Vineeth Srinivasan), an IT worker in Dubai, is having marital problems with his wife in India, and Sethupathi (Kalayirasan), a truck driver from Tamil Nadu, agrees to deliver explosives to Kerala. Both of these events take place while Ramesh (Vineeth Srinivasan) is in Dubai. The year 2018 finds Kerala being ravaged by floods, and the narrative focuses on the difficulties of the protagonists as well as the effects of the disaster on the people of Kerala. How did they manage to avoid death during such a catastrophic event? The movie provides all of the solutions.

Jude Anthany Joseph deserves praise for filming a realistic movie that demonstrates the concerns of a variety of people as well as their eventual choice to stand up for their fellow humans in the midst of a natural disaster. His writing is also very strong, particularly in the second half, in which he expresses the feelings of the characters in a way that is believable.

The excellent efforts of composer Nobin Paul, cinematographer Akhil George, and the entire production design team helped to make the movie into a technological masterpiece, which was made possible owing to their hard work.
The editing work done by Chaman Chakko is satisfactory, but he might have improved the viewing experience of ‘2018’ by cutting a few sequences from the early half of the movie. The production qualities are high, and the effort done on the visual effects helps to create an exciting environment. The Telugu dubbing is also to a satisfactory level.
