Noella McMaher, from years, became the youngest transgender model to open and close a show during New York Fashion Week. Noella was born a boy but has identified as a girl since preschool.

On social media, Noella says that she made the gender transition at age four and that she intends to take hormone blockers “as soon as possible”. She also says that she has a “cis” sibling (who identifies with their birth sex) and another sibling who is not gender-defined. The child model also explains that she is the daughter of two trans male parents.

“I’m showing other people and kids that being transgender isn’t bad,” the model told Reuters in an interview. “Yeah 1100, nobody knows what’s normal right now,” she concluded. A tweet from the news agency publicizing this story highlights that the trans model “is redefining normal”.

Most of the local press celebrated the news, as an increase in LGBTQ+ representation in the community. Some other vehicles are critical of the news. “Forcing a toddler or preschooler to believe they are the wrong sex, dressing them in clothes of the opposite sex, and then encouraging a legal, social and medical transition is very harmful,” says Nicole Russell, columnist and researcher. of the subject in the Daily Signal newspaper.
